Face ID Below The Screen Still May Be Present On IPhone 18

JAKARTA - Apple has just released the iPhone 17, but rumors about the iPhone 18 have started to emerge. This time, the rumors again discussed the possibility of Face ID under the scenes, as well as changes to Dynamic Island designs.

A source from Weibo, a leaker with the account name Instant Digital (also known as Setsuna Digital), claims that the iPhone 18 will have a slimmer Dynamic Island, or more precisely "a little narrower". This is due to internal component shrinkage, so that areas that need to be covered at the top of the screen will also be reduced.

However, although this opens up opportunities for the presence of technology under the scenes, the leaker denies that Apple will embed Face ID or under-screen cameras for the iPhone 18. Based on automatic translation of the upload, future models do not have a Underscreen Face ID or under-screen camera.

Old Rumors That Repeatedly

Camera technology and under-screen sensors have long been the subject of speculation, because they are considered the ideal way to present a full screen without interruption. By hiding TrueDepth sensors below the surface of the screen, Apple can create a truly edge-to-edge iPhone design.

However, from a technical point of view, this is still a big challenge. Sensors must be able to work accurately even though they are covered by screen pixels, which can interfere with facial recognition performance or image quality.

Although this rumor has not materialized yet, this rumor continues to circulate. For example, trusted analyst Ross Young from Counterpoint Research (previously from Display Supply Chain Consultants), in May 23025 estimated that the new Underscreen Face ID will be present in 2026, while the under-screen selfie camera will still take longer to develop.

Another leaker, Digital Chat Station, also claimed in May that the Underscreen Face ID will be on the iPhone 18 Pro, but later corrected his statement and said the technology would only be completely perfect on the iPhone 19 by 2027.

Although rumors of Face ID under the scenes are still popping up, sources from Weibo are not entirely reliable, as many of them are simply redistributing information from other sources for the sake of popularity. However, Instant Digital has a pretty good track record, including in leaking the Camera Control feature in the past.

Thus, although it may still be open, it seems that users will have to wait at least until the iPhone 19 to see the full implementation of Face ID and the front camera below the screen.
