Sony Sued For Monopoly And Limit Games On PlayStation Store

JAKARTA - Sony is being sued by gamers over its alleged monopoly on game sales for their consoles. Where gamers are "forced" to buy games from Sony's PlayStation Store.

Citing Ubergizmo, PlayStation console users cannot purchase games from various sources, they are more limited to buying the desired game. This is what led some parties to sue Sony with the demands of market monopoly.

"Sony's monopoly allows it to charge highly competitive prices for digital PlayStation games, which is significantly higher than their physical counterparts sold in competitive retail markets, and significantly higher than prices in the competitive retail market for digital games," the lawsuit reads.

Unlike PCs, gamers can choose to buy their games from a variety of sources. For example, from direct publishers such as Ubisoft and from third-party stores such as Steam, Epic Games Store, others.

Even gamers can buy their games in offline stores. This makes gamers get better offers due to competition between one store and another store,

According to lawyers in the lawsuit, they are said to have completely stopped PlayStation gamers from purchasing third-party digital download codes starting in 2019.

As in America, the game code is sold by third-party retailers such as GameStop and Amazon. There are also several other stores that can sell the digital code.

Of course this makes Sony basically force gamers to buy digital games on the PlayStation Store. The lawsuit has led sony to put up a very competitive price. However, until now Sony has not commented on the matter.
