JAKARTA - As one of the companies providing data centers and digital infrastructure from Indonesia, AREA31, it has revealed that the data center industry in Indonesia is no less confident than other countries.

According to the Director of AREA31, Edi Sugianto, from the standard side, data center services in the country already refer to international certification, including Uptime and Tier 3 and Tier 4 standards.

"Regarding the investment in data centers in Indonesia compared to outside, we are actually the same, there is no difference. So, we know Uptime standards, then there is a rate (tier). From there it's just like a word, for example, tier 3, tier 4, compared Indonesia to other countries, where the point is the same," said Edi at the signing of Cooperation Area 31 and Eutelsat OneWeb on Wednesday, August 20 in Depok.

Even so, he considered the biggest challenge the data center industry in Indonesia was related to regulations. Edi emphasized the importance of strengthening the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP) to reduce the risk of data leakage.

Moreover, most of the Indonesian people's data is stored on social media platforms, whose servers are not necessarily domestic.

"The biggest challenge, from the regulatory side, we need regulations that support it. For example, the PDP Law is strengthened, tightened, so that our data is not leaked, for example (corrested)," said Edi.

Apart from regulation, Edi also highlighted trust. Where many people question the capabilities or technology provided by local companies. In fact, he believes that local products are capable, including cloud services, bare metal, to Infrastructure as a Service (IaS).

"Basicly, that's the only problem in the trust, so you don't have to be happy, we believe that it's more external than made in Indonesia, right, even though it's actually made in Indonesia, it's good too," concluded Edi.

He also emphasized that currently AREA31 is preparing local cloud services to compete with foreign provider dominance.
