JAKARTA There are a number of Windows security myths that users still believe in, even though they are clearly wrong. Of the many myths circulating, there are three that are most common.

The three myths include the use of paid antivirus, total protection from Microsoft Defender, to Windows 10 which offers the best security. Here's a mythary explanation, citing from Makeuseof.

Many users still believe that their computer will be infected if they don't subscribe to paid antivirals. In fact, this assumption is no longer accurate due to Microsoft Defender's presence.

The security software is active by default on Windows 11 and Windows 10. Since its release, Microsoft Defender's performance has been considered adequate. However, not only that, currently many third-party antiviral providers have offered protection for free.

They only charge if users are interested in using additional features. If the features available for free meet public needs, you don't need to subscribe to antivirals.

Although Microsoft Defender offers solid protection, this software cannot protect users from all kinds of threats. There are still risks beyond the ability of security apps.

Windows Security is indeed effective in stoppingmalware, ransomware, and other threats. However, there is the biggest threat Microsoft Defender cannot handle, namely social engineering.

The attacker will manipulate the user to submit personal information or disable protection. Therefore, users should not assume that Microsoft Defender can block all threats.

Windows 10 will end on October 14, 2025. Although there are millions of computers that still use their operating system (OS), Windows 10 will be less secure after Microsoft's support is discontinued.

The reason is, if there are security concerns that arise, Microsoft will not provide improvements to the problem. Popular apps will also stop providing support for Windows 10 and prefer to focus on newer versions.
