JAKARTA - Kaspersky's global cybersecurity company launched the Kaspersky eSIM Store, a new practical solution that allows tourists to install digital SIMs on their mobile devices instantly.
Kaspersky said the solution was designed to address the safe and practical need for connectivity amid a surge in cross-border travel in Asia Pacific.
"As travel trends increase across the region, digital connectivity must develop as quickly as possible," said Chee Choon Hong, Head of Consumer Channel for Asia Pacific in Kaspersky in a written statement quoted on Sunday, August 17.
Asia Pacific itself is the largest market for global eSIMs, representing more than 56 percent in 2024, with revenues reaching around 11.5 million US dollars (Rp 185 billion).
This growth is also projected to continue with an annual increase rate of between 11 percent and 21 percent in the coming years.
"With the rapid adoption of eSIM and increasing tourist demand for reliable instant data access, this solution empowers them with a safe and stress-free experience," added Chee Choon Hong.
However, Kaspersky also warned of the risk of cybercrime following this trend. Company researchers discovered a number of phishing attacks that mimic large telecommunication operators in the region, including Singtel, Smart, and Telstra.
If users unknowingly enter sensitive data into fake sites, they have the potential to become victims of identity theft, illegal access to financial accounts, to hacking crypto wallets.
