BRIN And DST India Explore Cooperation To Strengthen Science And Technology

JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) announced the latest collaboration with India's Department of Science and Technology (DST). This collaboration is carried out to strengthen relations between countries.

In addition, BRIN and DST want to encourage progress in the field of science and technology (Iptek). This meeting is a continuation of the collaboration between the two which ended in 2023.

Head of the Legal and Cooperation Bureau of BRIN Tri Sundari stated that this meeting was an important milestone in strengthening relations between the two countries. According to Tri, the two countries are facing the same urgency to draw up a new agreement.

"Indonesia and India face similar challenges and have great potential to take advantage of innovation for socio-economic growth," Tri said after discussing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Tuesday, August 12.

The MoU, which is targeted to be completed by the end of this year, is considered to expand the scope of collaboration in the field of materials development and smart infrastructure. BRIN plans to involve the relevant ministries to expand the cooperation ecosystem.

"We want this MoU to be an instrument relevant to the needs of the times," Tri said. MoU is expected to be oriented towards results and provide direct benefits to both countries."

On the other hand, Indian DST Advisor and Head of International Cooperation Praveenkumar Somasundaram emphasized that relations between the two countries need to be strengthened into strategic collaboration. He sees many opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation.

Indonesia is an important partner of India in science, technology and innovation," said Somasundaram. He also believes that some innovations in his country, such as cyber-physical missions, quantum computing, deep marine missions, and green hydrogen can be a new area of cooperation in the field of science and technology.
