JAKARTA WhatsApp is committed to protecting its users from various methods or fraudulent tactics that take advantage of its platform. In line with this commitment, WhatsApp launched two new features.

This feature comes specifically to strengthen the security of the platform and protect its users from criminals. With these two security features, users will get better warnings and greater controls.

The first feature is the latest security summary on group messages. This summary will appear when the user is added to the group by someone who is not in the contact list. Users will see some important information in the feature.

"This summary will include important information about groups and tips to stay safe. From there, you can exit the group (by pressing the Group Exit button) without the need to view the chat," WhatsApp explained in a statement.

However, if users feel they recognize the group, but are not too sure to join immediately, they can see the contents of the chat first. Although users can see the message, they will not get a notification from the group.

Apart from going through groups, fraudsters also often contact victims via individual messages. They often start interactions on other platforms before inviting them to exchange messages on WhatsApp. To overcome this tactic, WhatsApp is testing a new approach.

This new approach is made to warn users before they interact with unknown people. For example, when starting a chat with someone outside the contact, a warning will appear this on the screen.

"We are exploring ways to warn you when starting a chat with someone who is not in your contacts by showing additional contexts about who you sent the message to so you can make the right decisions," WhatsApp said.

By leveraging this feature, users can make more appropriate decisions and avoid potential fraud. This is part of WhatsApp's ongoing efforts to keep users safe.
