JAKARTA - Elon Musk's social media company X plans to revive the popular video sharing platform Vine in the "AI form". This was revealed by the billionaire and technoperreneur on Thursday 24 July. This comes nearly nine years after the app was discontinued.

Musk announced this news through a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, although it did not provide further details. X has not responded to media requests for more detailed information about this re-launch.

We're bringing back Vine, but in AI form

The Tesla CEO has previously signaled several times about plans to revive Vine since acquiring Twitter in 2022, including by creating a public poll on X about revitalizing the popular short video app in the 2010s.

Twitter first launched Vine in January 2013, allowing users to share six-second or less video clips. The app is quickly popular with blogger videos and attracts millions of followers. But at the end of 2016, Twitter announced the termination of the app.

The six-second video format is considered suitable for AI-generated content, considering that most AI video creation tools currently available usually produce short-formed content. Meanwhile, longer video clips tend to require higher production costs.

The re-launch of Vine in the form of AI marks a new chapter in Musk's strategy to bring legendary digital platforms to life with a touch of the latest technology. However, it is not clear exactly how AI will be integrated into the new Vine user experience.

Some analysts estimate this new feature may include AI-based auto-video creation capabilities or intelligent editing tools that make it easier to create short content. However, the technical details and official launch times are still eagerly awaited by loyal Vine fans.

Musk's decision is also seen as an attempt to compete with today's popular short video platforms such as TikTok and Instagram Reels, offering unique value through the integration of artificial intelligence technology.
