JAKARTA Amazon is competing with SpaceX in expanding its constellation of satellites in space. However, in this competition, Amazon actually asked for help from the company owned by Elon Musk.

Amazon used launch services from SpaceX in launching the Kuiper Project. The company used a Falcon 9 rocket to launch 24 Kuiper satellites on Wednesday, July 15 at around 13.30 WIB.

The launch mission, named KF-01, lasted for 27 minutes on Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. According to Amazon claims, all of its satellites were successfully launched without any problems so that the number of operational Kuiper satellites has increased.

Falcon 9 is only tasked with delivering the Kuiper satellite up to an altitude of 465 kilometers from above Earth. After being escorted to that altitude, the Kuiper team from Amazon just took command from the Mission Operations Center in Redmond, Washington.

"From there, we started conducting initial satellite health checks while preparing to lift the satellite to a predetermined altitude, which is 630 km, where the satellites will be fully inaugurated as part of the constellation," explains Amazon.

Overall, the total Kuiper satellites in orbit now reach 78 units. Amazon will continue to launch the Kuiper satellite massively to pursue targets. The company plans to put more than 3,200 satellites in space.

When compared to the Starlink constellation, Amazon is still far behind. SpaceX currently dominates low-earth orbit (LEO) with 8,000 operating satellites. The number of these satellites will continue to grow over time.
