JAKARTA - Starlink, a satellite-based internet service developed by SpaceX, has decided to no longer accept new users in Indonesia, citing the available capacity.
Responding to the news, the Executive Director of the All-Indonesian Telecommunications Organizers Association (ATSI), Marwan O. Baasir stated that his party was still waiting for the government's official stance regarding the temporary suspension of the new Starlink customer.
"I can't respond to that yet, I really can't respond. Yes, we are waiting for the government, he said we also want to give a response, we are waiting for it from the government," said Marwan after the Selular Business Forum (SBF) event which took place on Wednesday, July 16.
However, Marwan emphasized that the decision had a positive impact on business sustainability for national telecommunications operators, who are members of ATSI.
"But for me, I prefer to protect ATSI administrators, ATSI members, because the sustainability of the business is more friendly," he said further.
When asked whether the temporary suspension of Starlink was due to pressure from ATSI to the government or not, he explained that the association had long expressed opinions, including to the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU).

Because, Marwan underlined, although Starlink and local operators use different media to provide ground-frequency and satellite networks, competition will still occur.
"ATSI has given its opinion for a long time, it has given us income, from last year we submitted it to KPPU, right. Because there is business competition, only the media is different," he concluded.
Marwan also emphasized the importance of maintaining the sustainability of the national organizing business in the midst of new technological dynamics. He said that the satellite capacity was actually limited.
