JAKARTA Recently, news emerged that TikTok, a subsidiary of ByteDance, was developing a special US application. After this rumor circulated, TikTok finally gave an official response.

This statement was made after Reuters reported on the creation of a dedicated application with separate algorithms and data systems from the global version of the app. TikTok stated that the information was inaccurate.

"Reuters' recently published news, which is based on an anonymous source without information, is in fact inaccurate," the vertical video platform said via its official website, quoted on Friday, July 11.

Unfortunately, TikTok did not explain in detail which part was inaccurate. Whether all the information submitted by Reuters is inaccurate or only certain parts focus on its latest app algorithms and systems.

Earlier, Reuters stated that they had received exclusive information from unnamed TikTok employees. The employee revealed that TikTok has been trying to develop a special US app in recent months.

This development includes data transfer processes to application code base duplication, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) models, algorithms, features, and user data. In other words, this new platform will be created as similar as possible to the original TikTok.

This new initiative is referred to as an internal 'M2' and is reportedly targeted for completion in September. The development of this application is also expected to help TikTok, including ByteDance, in the face of divestment rules.

TikTok does not exclusively explain what parts are inaccurate. There is still the possibility of TikTok developing a new app for US users. The reason is, this new app creation information not only appears for TikTok, but also other ByteDance applications.
