IBM Launches New Chips And Servers, Focuses On Facilitating AI Implementation In The Business World

JAKARTA IBM on Tuesday July 8 announced a new line of chips and servers for data centers that are claimed to be more power efficient than its competitors. The chip is designed to simplify the process of implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in business operations.

The new chip, dubbed Power11, is the first major update to the "Power" chip line since 2020. This chip has traditionally competed with products from Intel and AMD, especially in special sectors such as financial, manufacturing and health services.

Just like Nvidia's AI server, IBM's Power system is an integrated package between chips and software. Tom targetrson, IBM's General Manager of Power Systems, explains that this integrated approach allows Armonk, New York-based companies to focus more on reliability and security aspects.

The Power11 system will be available from July 25, 2025, and is designed without requiring scheduled stopping time for software updates. The average unexpected stop time per year is only about 30 seconds.

In addition, this system is capable of detecting and responding to ransomware attacks within one minute. Such attacks usually involve hacking encrypted data and then asking for a ransom to open them.

In the fourth quarter of this year, IBM is also planning to integrate Power11 with their AI chip introduced last year, the Spyre.

"Indeed not designed for heavy AI training, but this system has excellent and easy-to-integrable inference capabilities."

This launch reinforces IBM's position in providing practical and secure AI solutions for industries that require high stability and efficiency.
