Meta And Oakley Launch Smart Glasses For Athletes: Style Or Need?

JAKARTA - Meta continues to push for wearable technology boundaries by releasing Oakley Meta HSTN, an AI-powered smart glasses specifically aimed at athletes. After cooperating with Ray-Ban for fashion consumers, now Meta is collaborating with Oakley to embrace the world of sports.

These glasses were built on the existing Oakley HSTN frame design, but were armed with new technologies such as:

3K Cameras To Record sports actions Without the need for hands

Speakers open-ear, allowing users to listen to music or podcasts without covering their ears

IPX4 water resistance, suitable for outdoor heavy activity

built-in AI Meta, which can answer questions, provide suggestions, to help during training sessions

The battery is claimed to last up to 8 hours in normal use, coupled with a charging case that stores up to 48 extra hours.

To strengthen the position of this product as a premium sporting device, Meta collaborates with world stars such as Kylian Mbappe and Patrick Mahomes as campaign faces. Other names such as former basketball player JR Smith and skateboarder Boo Johnson also enlivened the launch.

The limited edition of Oakley Meta HSTN will be priced at $499 and becomes available on July 11, 2025, with another more affordable model for $399 following at the end of the summer. The initial launch includes North America, Europe, and Australia, with countries like Mexico and India coming later.

The big question is: is this smart glasses really needed by athletes, or is it just a technological trend? With features like hands-free cameras and AI training assistants, Meta hopes these glasses can be a smart training companion. However, mass adoption on the sports field is still a big question mark.
