Leaked IPhone Folding Screen Will Be 8 Inches In Size

JAKARTA - Rumors about the folding screen iPhone have indeed been circulating in cyberspace for a long time, but no one has been able to prove the truth. This time, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared a number of information related to Apple's folding screen phones.

Summarized from BGR, Kuo said that Apple will launch an 8-inch foldable iPhone in 2023. The report is based on an industry survey predicting that Apple will sell 15 to 20 million units by 2023.

Previously, Kuo claimed the foldable iPhone would launch in March, but it turns out that Apple didn't make that happen. Now Kuo's latest report reveals more details about the design and specifications.

It is thought that the foldable iPhone QHD + flexible OLED will be supplied by Samsung Display, while the DDI display controller will come from Samsung Foundry. Kuo also noted that Apple will adopt the nanowire touch technology supplied by TPK, due to several advantages over the Y-Octa SDC technology.

Kuo believes nanowire touch technology will give Apple a long-term competitive advantage. He said that Apple is already using it for the HomePod touch interface, which allows Apple to reduce production costs.

However, the truth of this report is still uncertain. Meanwhile, Kuo also expects Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Honor to launch new foldable models in late 2021 or early 2022.

"Currently, the position of folding smartphone products is mainly to integrate smartphones and tablets. However, we believe that a foldable smartphone is just one application with a foldable design," said Kuo.

"We expect that foldable devices will blur the product segmentation between smartphones, tablets and laptops in the future. With its cross-product ecosystem and hardware design excellence, Apple will be the biggest winner in the new foldable device trend," he added.

If that is the case, a foldable phone could be the next innovative selling point of the high-end model. That way, Apple certainly wants to be ready with its own model.

However, if consumers don't like devices like Kuo's prediction, Apple could cancel the project like a hot rock. In other words, a lot can happen in the next two years.
