JAKARTA - Kaspersky's global cybersecurity and digital company warned of the increasing abuse of artificial intelligence (AI) in cyberattacks across the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
According to Kaspersky, in 2024 there will be more than 3 billion malware attacks globally. Financial cybercrime is also soaring worldwide, with a 2x increase in the number of victims of cellular financial threats and an increase in phishing attacks targeting crypto assets.
But worse, the nature of the threat changes with AI becoming a double-edged sword in cybersecurity. Where the perpetrators are now using AI to create phishing content such as deepfakes, to develop malware.
Seeing this, Kaspersky emphasized the importance of the next generation SOC (Security Operations Center) which must evolve with AI integration to be able to carry out detection, response, and automation.
"AI is reshaping the threat and defense landscape. To stay superior, organizations need more than just tools, they need intelligent SOCs that combine automation, threat intelligence and human expertise," said Adrian Hia, Managing Director for Asia Pacific in Kaspersky.

Kaspersky urged companies to adopt cybersecurity strategies that support AI, including:
The SOC is a centralized command center that monitors, detects, analyzes, and responds to security incidents within the network and organizational systems.
"By investing in your right resources, technology and humans, you can improve your security posture, reduce risks, and protect sensitive data, maintain your reputation and business continuity," added Hia.
