JAKARTA - After being delayed for five months, Apple has finally launched CarPlay Ultra, the latest generation of entertainment systems that will be present in Aston Martin cars in the next few weeks.

Apple first introduced the new generation CarPlay concept in 2022, with the promise to be present at the vehicle by the end of 2024. However, the launch was officially announced on Thursday 15 May through Apple's press release.

"iPhone users really like CarPlay, and this feature has revolutionized the way people connect to their vehicles. With CarPlay Ultra, we and automakers provide a smarter and more integrated driving experience," said Bob Borchers, Apple's Vice President of Global Product Marketing.

"This latest CarPlay generalization provides a safer and smarter way to use the iPhone in the car, with deep integration into the vehicle system and visual views that can be adjusted to the brand identities of each manufacturer."

CarPlay Ultra no longer only appears on the dashboard center screen. Now, all digital displays of the car include speedometers, taxometers, fuel indicators, and temperature controllers can be taken over by this system. Drivers can choose to display data from iPhones, such as maps or music, as well as direct vehicle information.

In addition, CarPlay Ultra supports control over touchscreens, physical buttons, and Siri voice commands. As has been rumored, the system also brings widgets that match size and position with the car screen, making it easier for drivers to see glimpse information.

Although Apple had exhibited partnerships with 14 major car brands (such as Audi and Volvo), so far no one has released a car with CarPlay Ultra. Aston Martin is the first, having committed to presenting it in the vehicle line in 2024.

The CarPlay Ultra will be available starting May 15 for new Aston Martin orders in the US and Canada, and will also be available for the already circulating Aston Martin car and has a new generation infotainment system, via software updates in the official dealers in the next few weeks.

Apple also mentions that other brands such as Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis are in the process of integrating CarPlay Ultra in their vehicles.

CarPlay Ultra can only be used on the iPhone 12 or a newer version, with a minimum operating system iOS 18.5.
