JAKARTA - Samsung continues to strive to spread artificial intelligence (AI) to all levels of its phones, but some users may need to be a little patient. The company has announced that several Samsung Galaxy A devices will soon support the activation of Gemini assistants from Google by pressing and holding back side buttons, imitating shortcuts already available in the Galaxy S flagship series.
In a press release Tuesday, April 29, Samsung confirmed that the update will begin rolling out globally in early May. This update will allow for Gemini's more direct access to the Galaxy A56 5G, A55 5G, A54 5G, A36 5G, A35 5G, A34 5G, A26 5G, A25 5G, A25e 5G, and A24. However, the records reveal that these phones will only get these updates while running One UI 7.
Some new models will even receive updates in June.

This is where the functionality doesn't look so close to everyone. Of these devices, only the Galaxy A56, A36, and A26 are present with the built-in One UI 7. According to the leaked launch schedule, other eligible models will receive an update in June. That means the side button shortcut for Gemini will not be available to most of the user of the series A until long after the initial launch window.
Upon arrival, this update will provide middle-class and more accessible mobile phone users with easier access to Gemini's smart assistant capabilities. This includes checking schedules, displaying recommendations, and completing tasks on various apps with voice commands.
This move reflects Samsung's broader strategy change. Gemini has replaced Bixby as the default assistant in the Galaxy S25 series, which was launched by default when you press the side button. Bringing the same experience to series A helps standardize AI Samsung across its device lineup.
