JAKARTA - A major revolution is taking place in the digital creative world. OpenAI officially released their latest AI image model, gpt-image-1, which is now available globally through Images API. More surprisingly, two design technology giants Adobe and Sigma have already integrated this technology into their platform. The design world is ready to experience an unprecedented surge in productivity and creativity.
OpenAI has long been known for its ability to create intelligent text and chatbots. But last month, the company introduced the most advanced version of their AI-based image generators and today, the technology is officially accessible to developers and business people around the world.
Through a special API, developers can enter gpt-image-1 image models into their various platforms, ranging from design applications, e-commerce, to digital advertising devices.
This model is known to be able to create images with a Studio Ghibli art style to visual surealis like a doll, as well as being able to follow very specific design commands, including text in a feature image that has been a weakness for many visual AIs.
It didn't take long for big players to respond. Adobe immediately included this model in its two flagship products, namely Firefly and Express. With this, creators can create artistic visuals only through text orders, paving new avenues in the creation of fast and flexible creative content.

Meanwhile, Sigma, a very popular collaborative design platform among UI/UX designers, integrates gpt-image-1 directly into the Figma Design. Users can now edit visual styles, add or remove objects, expand backgrounds, and create prototypes by simply typing simple commands. Sigma says this technology will "accelerate brainstorming, prototype creation, and design iterations visually."
Not only Adobe and Figma, other companies such as Canva, GoDaddy, Instacart, and HubSpot have also expressed interest and are starting to test the integration of this AI image model into their services. Canva, for example, is preparing to upgrade Magic Studio and Canva AI features that can automatically design according to user needs.
To maintain safety of use, OpenAI has implemented strict limits as applied on GPT-4o-based ChatGPT, including a ban on making dangerous images and embedding C2PA metadata to maintain transparency of AI-made images.
With this aggressive step from Adobe and Figma, one thing is clear: the future of digital design has shifted from just a click and drag, to a world where creativity can be realized only in words.
