JAKARTA In a white paper titled Helping Protect Kid Online which was released on February 27, Apple revealed the changes they will implement in their products, one of which is the reshuffle of Children's Accounts.
Apple has long introduced the Children's Account system and the company wants to simplify the account creation process. When iOS 18.4 is released in a stable version, users will get the Age Range option when they just set the iPhone or iPad.
In this option, people who manage their devices will be asked to choose one of the three age categories. There is a range of children aged 12 years and under, there is a range of Youth for ages 13 to 17 years, and the range of Adults for 18 years and over.
Apple will take advantage of this age range to implement parental controls and safety features. If this age range is not chosen earlier, Apple says that, "the default settings suitable for children will remain enabled on devices."
This means that as long as iPhone and iPad users don't state that they're adults, the device will be automatically set to the Children's category. That way, user access will be limited.
"This way, children can start using their iPhone or iPad safely," Apple explained. "This means more children will use configured devices to maximize child safety with parental control."

In addition, Apple is also updating the age range category for content that users can access. Currently, the applicable categories are 4 years and over, 9 years and over, 12 years and over, and 17 years and over.
Later, this category will be divided into five parts consisting of 4 years and over, 9 years and over, 13 years and over, 16 years and over, and 18 years and over. Apple deliberately separates the age range of teenagers.
This age category also applies to app downloads or ad displays on the App Store. Users will see the highlight of apps and advertising according to their age. The following is Apple's latest age limit rule.
