JAKARTA - A technical prior gave the impression that Apple approved a porn application available to iPhone users in the European Union through a third-party app store.

This sparked several misleading news titles, but Apple has now solved the issue by changing the three words in an email sent to the developer.

The EU Digital Markets Act (DMA) last year required Apple to allow third-party app stores on the iPhone, and the company was reluctant to comply with it even though it was trying hard to prevent iPhone users from using it and make installation processes as complicated as possible.

One of Apple's objections is that they will no longer be able to prevent certain types of applications from being available on the platform, with pornography being one of the categories that the company has always rejected.

Apple maintains the right to check app security before the app is allowed to be available in third-party stores, and they do this with the Hot Tub porn rover app. AltStore later said that Apple "approved" the app to enter.

This is technically true, because after Apple discovered that the app code met security and privacy requirements, the developer was sent an email stating this. However, the words in the email previously mentioned that the app was "approved" for release.

Previously:

The following app has been approved for distribution(Aplikasi berikut telah disetujui untuk distribusi)

The following following app has been approved for distribution (Applications have been approved for distribution)

Apple quickly confirmed that this did not mean they agreed to the app.

"Berlawanan dengan pernyataan palsu yang dibuat oleh pengembang pasar, kami tentu tidak menyetujui aplikasi ini dan tidak akan pernah menawarkannya di App Store kami. Kenyataannya, kami diwajibkan oleh Komisi Eropa untuk mengizinkannya didistribusikan oleh operator pasar seperti AltStore dan Epic yang mungkin tidak memiliki kepedulian yang sama terhadap keselamatan pengguna."

"In contrast to the false statements made by market developers, we certainly do not approve of this application and will never offer it on our App Store. In fact, we are required by the European Commission to allow it to be distributed by market operators such as AltStore and Epic who may not have the same concern for user safety."

Riley Testut from AltStore is now sharing changes to Apple's words.

Previously:

The following app has been approved for distribution(Aplikasi berikut telah disetujui untuk distribusi)

The following following app has been approved for distribution (Applications have been approved for distribution)

Now:

The following app is now ready for distribution(Aplikasi berikut sekarang siap untuk distribusi)

The following application is now ready for distribution (The following application is now ready for distribution)

"It looks like Apple changed the words in the Notarization email to no longer use the word 'approved,' curious what caused this!" said Testut.

As John noted, this is a smart way to deal with the situation, the meaning is clear for interim developers "not at all implying consent."
