Kaspersky Finds 893 Million Phishing Throughout 2024

JAKARTA - Kaspersky's security solution blocked more than 893 million phishing attempts by 2024, an increase of 26 percent compared to the previous year which reached 710 million.

Experts observe these various phishing schemes and scams have different goals, ranging from stealing data, stealing money, to installing malicious software.

"Although the phishing core mechanism remains unchanged, the attackers continue to perfect their disguise," said Olga Svistunova, security expert at Kaspersky.

In 2024, the global cybersecurity company found that cybercriminals often imitate well-known brand websites such as Booking, Airbnb, TikTok, Telegram, and others. One of the ongoing campaigns, for example, has targeted TikTok Shop users.

In this scheme, the perpetrator created a fake login page designed to steal the seller's credentials. In addition, they also take advantage of trending news, regulating fraudulent schemes involving topics that are currently being discussed, such as the game of Hamster Kombat crypto assets and TON wallets.

Other fraudulent schemes such as utilizing the image of fake celebrities in 2024, by wrongly promoting valuable rewards to fans, but never given. This trend will continue in 2025.
