JAKARTA - The latest report from NTT Data entitled 'Responsibility to AI: Why Leadership is the Key to Missing' reveals that the business world still faces a big gap in responsibility for the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

The report found that a third of executives believed responsibility was more important than innovation, another third prioritizing innovation above safety, and the rest rated the two equally important.

In addition, 80 percent of the 2,300 leaders of organizations in 34 countries surveyed revealed that unclear government regulations are the main obstacle in AI investment and implementation. As a result, many organizations have postponed AI adoption.

Concerns about security and ethics in AI use are also increasing. Although 89 percent of C-suite leaders admit concern about AI security risks, only 24 percent of chief information security officer (CISO) feels their organization has an adequate framework for risk mitigation and value creation from AI.

The challenges not only stop at regulations and security, but also touch on the readiness of the workforce in dealing with the AI era.

This report sees as many as 67 percent of executives as saying their employees don't have enough skills to work effectively with AI.

Even more worrying, 72 percent of leaders admit their organization does not have a clear AI policy to responsibly guide the use of this technology.

The AI channel is clear. But without firm leadership, we are at risk of facing a future where innovation exceeds responsibility, creating security loopholes, ethical blind spots, and missed opportunities, "said Abhijit Dubey, CEO of NTT DATA, Inc.
