JAKARTA Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of today's technological drivers. This technology can benefit advertisers on Meta, but can also be used irresponsibly.
Not a few people use AI to cheat or extort others. In fact, this technology can be used to create harmful or deepfake fake content. To overcome things like this, Meta launched an AI label on advertising content last year.
The company that oversees Facebook and Instagram does not prohibit the use of AI content for advertisers. Instead, the company provides a label showing that content users see is created using AI or AI-based tools.
"We continue to prioritize transparency and responsibility in the limits of our advertisers," Meta said in its official broadcast. "We label ads made or edited significantly using our generative AI creative features."
For a year, the labeling has been improved in collaboration with experts, stakeholders, and industry partners around the world. For now, Meta uses a multi-branch approach to determine when the AI label should be given.

"Our labels are designed to help people understand when images and videos have been created or edited significantly with our internal generative AI tools," explains Meta. "This label will appear in the three-dot menu or next to the 'Disponsored' label."
Meta explains the difference in labels displayed next to sponsored labels and in the three-dot menu. If advertisers only edit using Meta's AI creative feature, either for images or videos, the AI label will be included in the three-dot menu
However, Meta can also place its menu next to the Disponsored label. Especially for the inclusion of AI-generated realistic photos, Meta will display its label next to the Disponsored label. That way, users can realize that the photo they see is AI.
