JAKARTA - The UGM Communication Science Alumni Association (Publikom Gama) calls for the need for communication sovereignty' as Indonesia's main shield in the Prabowo-Gibran era, directly to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria.
General Chairperson of the Gama Public Relations, Agus Sudibyo, emphasized that the flow of information and communication must stand on democratic values, good governance, and public ethics.
Therefore, Publicists Gama emphasized the importance of implementing Indonesia's positive laws such as the Press Law, Broadcasting Law, Personal Data Protection Law, and the Presidential Decree on the Responsibility of Digital Platform Companies to Support Quality Journalism (Publisher Right) to protect the media ecosystem and national information.
According to Agus, the government must ensure that the national data flow remains under government control. Digital infrastructure such as data centers, internet networks, and communication technology must be controlled independently.
Meanwhile, in facing the revolution of artificial intelligence (AI), Publicomo Gama reminded that this technology can be a double-edged sword, which without literacy, AI will threaten the security of the privacy of its users.
"AI is a double-edged sword. Without adequate literacy, we can get caught in the snares of algorithms that threaten privacy, spread hoaxes, and paralyze the local creative industry," said Chairman of the Advisory Council of the Gama Public Organization, Imam Wahyudi in his official broadcast.
As a solution, Publicists Gama encourage the government to immediately issue practical and applicative AI guidelines for students, journalists, researchers, and content creators.
