JAKARTA - Google has introduced a new update in the Messages app that allows users to change profile sharing with their own contact photo. This feature brings back control of personalization that users previously complained about a lot.

Late last year, Google introduced a profile sharing feature (previously known as profile disclosure), which automatically replaced local contact photos with their Google account images. Despite making it easier to synchronize between apps, many users feel they have lost their ability to set more personal photos.

Now, Google Messages presents the option of Set as chat picture', allowing users to select local photos from Google Contacts or other system applications on their Android phones.

Here are the steps to replace the contact profile photo:

This feature also includes a shortcut 'Manage in the Contacts app' for easier management through Google Contacts.

This feature has been widely launched on the beta and stable version of Google Messages (version 20241120). Google's official documentation also explains that this option allows users to display local photos or profile sharing photos of their contacts.

With this update, users can re-adjust their visual experience on Google Messages, make conversations more personal and suit their individual preferences.
