JAKARTA - In a recent Popular report entitled Navigating Economic and Security Challenges in 2025, it reveals the concern of the Indonesian people regarding job security.

If examined further, about 62 percent of respondents agreed that they felt threatened with losing their jobs because they were replaced by Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology.

"This is due to the increase in odd jobs, contract work, and layoffs which make many people feel less controlled. Then it is exacerbated by artificial intelligence (AI) technology which is growing very rapidly," said VP of Research Populix, Indah Tanip in a press release quoted on Saturday, December 14.

There are five main reasons that underlie this concern. Starting from fear being replaced with better, accurate, and affordable machines (72 percent), difficulty competing with machines capable of working 24-7 tirelessly (62 percent), and the development of too sophisticated AI could pose a threat to humans (60 percent).

Furthermore, 52 percent of respondents also admitted that the presence of AI was considered to increase poverty, inequality, and social instability, and the inability to compete or work side by side with AI due to a lack of skill (46 percent).

The poverty factor is based on the fear of losing a job, while the issue of inequality is due to the presence of subscription fees for access to a more up-to-date version of AI, which of course not owned by everyone. This was confirmed by the last reason, namely the inability to compete or work side by side with AI because of the lack of skills," concluded Indah.
