China Allegedly Breaks US Telecommunication Network, Senators Get Secret Briefing!

JAKARTA The United States government gave secret briefings to all senators on Wednesday, December 4 regarding alleged hacking attempts by China, known as "Salt Typhoon," to infiltrate US telecommunications networks and steal call data. This was revealed by officials who leaked it to the media.

This briefing will involve the FBI, National Intelligence Director Avril Haines, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Jessica Rosenworcel, National Security Council, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency (CISA). The meeting is scheduled to take place at 3 pm local time.

Separately, the US Senate Trade Committee subcommittee also plans to hold a hearing regarding the Salt Typhoon case on December 11.

The case raises serious concerns about the extent of hacking US telecommunications networks and when governments and companies can ensure the security of American citizen data.

Previously, the US accused hackers of targeting companies such as Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile, of stealing audio recordings of calls and large number of call records. However, the Chinese government has denied the allegations, calling them disinformation and asserting that Beijing opposes all forms of cyber attacks and theft.

CISA said it could not provide a definite schedule to remove all hackers from the US telecommunications network. "It will be difficult for us to predict when we can completely expel them," said CISA official Jeff Greene.
