JAKARTA - The Chinese government has revealed that it will try to mix a number of different coronavirus vaccines. The action was done as an effort to increase the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine.

"The vaccines available today do not have a very high level of protection," Said Director of China's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Gao Fu as quoted by Reuters, Sunday, April 11.

Gao Fu issued his statement at a conference held in Chengdu, China. It said it was considering mixing the Covid-19 vaccine in order to be more effective.

"Inoculation using vaccines from different technical pathways is being considered," he added.

Gao also revealed that china's Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is already working to improve the process of mixing vaccines. One of them is by changing the number of doses and the duration between doses of vaccines in an effort to increase the level of efficacy.

Currently China already has four Covid-19 vaccines, two Sinopharm and Sinovac branded vaccines have been exported abroad. Nonetheless, Sinovac and Sinopharm are rumoured to have efficacy levels under the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

The effectiveness rate of Sinovac and Sinopharm vaccines is claimed to be only 79.4 percent and 72.5 percent, according to the interim report. On the other hand, Sinovac vaccine itself is already used by the Government of Indonesia. Nevertheless, the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) revealed that the vaccine was only able to reach a efficacy level of 65.3 percent.
