JAKARTA A bill regulating the use of crypto assets is currently in the process of adoption in Morocco. This was conveyed by the Governor of the Central Bank of Morocco, Abdellative Jouahri, on Tuesday 26 November.

Since 2017, crypto assets have been banned in Morocco. However, the use of digital assets is still rampant by people who try to avoid the rules.

"Bank Al Maghrib has prepared a bill regulating crypto assets, and is currently in the process of being adopted," Jouahri said at an international conference in Rabat.

In addition, Bank Al Maghrib is also exploring the application of a central bank digital currency or Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC). Like many other countries in the world, we are studying the extent to which this new form of currency can contribute to the achievement of public policy goals, especially in terms of financial inclusion," added Jouahri.

CBDCs are different from crypto assets in general, because they are directly controlled by the central bank, while crypto assets are usually decentralized.
