Minister of Communication and Digital Asks Cellular Operators to Provide Free Quota to Residents Around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid asked all cellular operators in Indonesia to provide quotas or free internet access to the community around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) which erupted a few days ago.

According to Meutya, this aims to support the school needs of students and also provide the community with access to the latest information on conditions at Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki.

"We ask all cellular operators to provide vouchers/quotas to the community so they can access the internet for free," said Meutya in her official broadcast quoted on Wednesday, November 20.

Not only that, the Minister of Communication and Digital also asked the operators to build integrated posts as customer care services to the community there.

Meutya admitted that this appeal was a directive from the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto to ensure that internet and communication services can be used by the community around Mount Lewotobi.

"For that reason, I have asked all operators to submit the coordinates of BTS points that need to increase network recovery speed and implement a zero rupiah BHP facility for every frequency usage based on Radio Station Permit (ISR), to help when cellular operators need an alternative backhaul when their Fiber Optic-based backhaul is disconnected," she added.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Communication and Digital itself has established an information and media center, in order to accelerate the restoration of internet access and other telecommunications in disaster areas.

"This step is taken to ensure that the public obtains accurate information, starting from handling refugees to accelerating post-disaster recovery," said the Director General of Public Information and Communication (Dirjen IKP) of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, Prabunindya Revta Revolusi at a different time.
