JAKARTA Mozilla announced they will continue to support Firefox ESR 115 for the next six months. Indirectly, Mozilla stated they still support the old version of Windows.

Initially, Mozilla released Firefox 115 in July last year as the final update for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. The Firefox version is also planned to be the last update for macOS 10.12 Sierra, 10.13 High Sierra, and 10.14 Mojave at the time.

After Firefox 116 was released, the older version was moved to the Firefox ESR channel, which is a platform that often receives security updates, but rarely gets feature updates. Therefore, this Firefox version is more widely used on older Windows systems.

Currently, Mozilla has updated the Firefox ESR to version 128 which can only be accessed by Windows 10 and above and the latest macOS. However, version 115 is still available, at least until early next year.

"After reviewing the usage data, it was decided that we will continue to support the ESR 115 branch only for the platform mentioned earlier over the next 6 months," said Ryan Vander Meulen, Managing Director of Release Firefox.

Meulen explained that Mozilla will review the ESR 115 version of usage data again at the beginning of next year. This needs to be done because this version is already difficult to get a backport patch to maintain data security and quality.

"At the beginning of 2025, we will review the current usage data and decide at the same time whether further extensions are needed or not. We have updated whattrainisitnow.com to reflect this extension," said Meulen.
