JAKARTA Meta launched a new feature into Threads on Saturday, September 28. The microblogging platform, which is integrated with Instagram, can now share the location via post.
In the latest Threads version, users will see a pin icon when they want to make a post. This icon is placed parallel to the feature of adding images, audio, to hashtags. When the pin icon feature is clicked, the user's location will be visible at the bottom of the username.
Although this feature is launched to share locations, this feature is not integrated with the map. Therefore, when the user clicks on the location listed in the post, Threads will not display the right pins in the map.
This feature only displays public locations such as city names, surrounding environments, or restaurants. When posts with the location are uploaded, other users will be directed to posts in the same area if they click on the location listed.
The function of this feature does feel like a post filter based on location. Although it is not related to the division of precision locations on the map, users must still allow location access before using the feature.
Currently, the Location feature is not yet available on all devices because Meta is still expanding the feature. However, citing from The Verge, this feature can be accessed on mobile devices with Android and iOS operating systems (OS).
