JAKARTA - French jet engine maker Safran announced on Monday 2 September that it had reached an agreement to acquire artificial intelligence (AI) Preligens with a value of 220 million euros (approximately IDR 3.7 trillion).

Preligences, which specialize in artificial intelligence for aerospace and defense industries, will be renamed Safran.AI and become part of the Safran Electronics & Defense division.

Safran explained that the Preligences developed complex algorithms and software to analyze and automatically detect and identify military-interested objects using commercial and government satellite imagery.

"Through the merger of our strengths, we are determined not only to support the development of AI solutions from Preligence, but also to jointly open up a completely new field of AI applications in aviation, defense and space," said Safran Electronics & Defense CEO Franck Saudo, in a press release.
