JAKARTA - Sentient, an open-source AI development company, managed to achieve initial funding of 85 million US Dollars (around Rp1.3 trillion). This investment is led by Pantera Capital, Framework Ventures, and Founders Fund which was founded by Peter Thiel. Several other well-known investors who participated included Ethereal, Robot Ventures, Symbolic Capital, Marijuana, Dao5, Nomad, and Primitive Ventures.
One of Sentient's main contributors is Sandeep Nailwal, founder of Polygon, who stated that AI's rapid progress has the potential to change every aspect of our lives. However, the concentration of power in the hands of several centralized entities poses a significant risk.
"By building an open platform for AGI development, we aim to ensure that the benefits of AI are distributed fairly and its development is in line with the interests of all mankind," Nailwal said.

Sentient itself is a platform that builds an open-source AI model. Apart from Nailwal, there are three other core contributors that play an important role:
The two professors expressed their desire to compete directly with OpenAI, a company led by Sam Altman and behind ChatGPT and Sora, among other AI models.
According to a press release shared with Crypto Potato, a testnet from Sentient is scheduled to launch in the third quarter of this year. Funds from this funding round will be used to accelerate the development of their AI platform.
This funding shows the great trust of investors in the potential of Sentients in developing open-source AIs that can compete with industry giants like OpenAI. With strong financial support, Sentients are ambitious to bring significant changes to the AI ecosystem, ensuring that this technology is not only controlled by a handful of parties, but can be accessed and utilized by more people for the common good.
