JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) is targeting to complete the Draft Personal Data Law (RUU PDP) by 2021. Discussions on the PDP Bill itself have been going on since January 24, 2020.

"The process of drafting the Personal Data Protection Bill has actually been rolling since 2020, discussions with our DPR have now reached a discussion of 145 DIMs out of 371 existing DIMs. In late March we started discussing again, hopefully this can be completed in 2021 and hit the hammer," said Acting Secretary of the Directorate General of Informatics Applications Mariam F. Barata, Wednesday, March 17.

According to him, the discussion of the PDP Bill has reached 50 percent of the Problem Inventory List (DIM). Mariam said that later there will be 3 things regulated in the Personal Data Protection Law, namely citizens as data subjects (owners of personal data), data controllers, and data processing parties.

The three things regulated in the PDP Law must be committed to safeguarding data related to personal information so that no leakage occurs which leads to violations and misuse of data.

"We hope that with the PDP Law, activities or activities related to the leakage of personal data can be followed up and given the law if a violation of the data is found," said Mariam.

In addition to pursuing the completion of regulations to regulate the use and security of personal data, Kominfo also continues to make efforts to make various levels of society aware of the importance of personal data so that it is not misused.

In addition to capturing businessmen who control and process data, Kominfo also captures subjects, namely owners of personal data through digital literacy education related to privacy security.

The forms of education provided include webinars or online discussions which are also in accordance with the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, which encourages people to continue their activities from home.

"In the past year, we have been aggressively conducting education to the public so as not to voluntarily spread data. This is intended so that relationships with data controllers or processors can build trust, security, confidentiality and integrity," said Mariam.
