Tencent Announces CarbonX Program Winners To Accelerate Carbon Netrality

JAKARTA Tencent, a technology company centered in China, gave awards to 13 teams that won the first phase of the CarbonX Program. This announcement was shared on Monday, 27 May. Initially, the program had more than 300 registrants, but Tencent only set 30 finalists. After passing through the first phase aimed at presenting innovative technology, Tencent selected 13 winners according to the CarbonX concept. In the first phase, the CarbonX program focused on capture (capture), utilization (utilization), and carbon storage (storage) or CCUS. The various selected teams had unique innovations, such as reducing emissions from industrial sectors such as steel and cement. Hao Xu, Vice President of Tencent Sustainable Social Value (SSV) and Head of Tencent Carbon Neutrality Lab, said that the CarbonX program had a very important impact. The reason is, technological innovation can accelerate carbon neutrality. "Through the CarbonX program, we want to realize the growth of such technology, have a positive impact on the community, and create a foundation for a more sustainable future," said Hao in a statement received by VOI. Meanwhile, Co-chairman of the CarbonX expandertee Jerry Yan explained that the development of low-carbon technology could bring changes to a greener economy. Therefore, low-carbon technology creation needs to gain support. "We must fight for the development of advanced low-carbon technology. Just like solar power and wind that has been supported from the start, new solutions such as CCUS and carbon removal technologies require our support from an early age," said Jerry. CarbonX launched in March last year to develop next-generation low-carbon technology. Through this program, Tencent is committed to supporting innovative ideas that may be difficult to develop over the next three years. The selected winner will receive financial support with a total of 14 million US dollars (Rp225 billion) from Tencent. It is hoped that supported technology can have a significant impact and achieve the targets outlined in the Paris Agreement.
