China Creates Guidelines To Replace US Processors From Government Computers

JAKARTA - On Sunday, March 24, the Financial Times reported that the Chinese government had introduced new regulatory guidelines aimed at removing microprocessors from US companies such as Intel and AMD products from computers and servers used by the government.

The new procurement guidelines also propose to reduce the use of the Windows operating system from Microsoft and foreign-made database software, in order to prioritize domestic options.

Government agencies above the district city level have been notified to include criteria demanding the use of "safe and reliable" processors and operating systems when making purchases.

In late December, China's industrial ministry issued a statement containing three separate lists of CPUs, operating systems, and centralized databases deemed "safe and reliable" over the next three years, all from local Chinese companies.

US companies such as Intel and AMD have not responded to requests for comment from the media.
