JAKARTA - Meta's Chief Executive, Mark Zuckerberg, on Wednesday, January 31, apologized to the families who attended the US Senate hearing on the impact of social media on children.

A push from Republican Senator Josh Hawley, Zuckerberg stood up and spoke to the family who raised pictures of their children said they had been harmed by social media.

When the trial began, the committee played a video in which children talked about being intimidated on social media platforms. Senators tell the story of young people ending their own lives after being exploited for money after sharing photos with sexual predators.

"Do you want to apologize to the victims who have been harmed by your product?" asked Hawley, noting that the trial was broadcast live on television.

Zuckerberg stood up, turned around, and spoke to family.

"I apologize for everything you've experienced. No one should have experienced things that your family has experienced, and that's why we invested so much and we will continue to make efforts across the industry to make sure nothing has to go through the things your family has experienced," he said.

Hawley aggressively criticized Zuckerberg during the tense exchange. "Your products kill people," Hawley told Zuckerberg, whose companies have social media platforms Facebook and Instagram.
