NASA Participates in the COP28 Climate Change Conference

JAKARTA – The United States Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced that its agency will participate in the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) on UN Climate Change.

This event will be held for almost two weeks, from November 30 to December 12, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). NASA Administrator Bill Nelson was confirmed to be present as a representative at the event.

Apart from Nelson, NASA also presented several other representatives such as Chief Scientist Kate Calvin, Chief of Staff Susie Perez Quinn, Director of the Earth Science Division Karen St. Germain, Marine Physics Scientist Nadya Vinogradova Shiffer, and many more.

During the conference, Nelson will participate in the agenda of the first Space Agency Leaders' Summit. Through this participation, NASA seeks to demonstrate its commitment to supporting global climate initiatives.

Meanwhile, other NASA representatives will participate in the NASA Hyperwall event which will be held the day after the opening of the conference until the closing day. This event will discuss many things related to the applications of NASA's climate discoveries and research.

NASA scientists will also give presentations on how NASA designs new instruments, satellites and data collection systems from various places such as land, oceans and the Earth's atmosphere.

For information, COP28 will be attended by 70,000 participants consisting of leaders and representatives from almost 200 countries. This conference will review the UN Framework on the implementation of Climate Change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Paris Agreement.

This conference is a top priority for the administration of United States President Joe Biden in tackling climate change. Therefore, US President Joe Biden invited NASA to show the country's efforts to overcome this problem.
