JAKARTA - To commemorate World Safe Internet Day, Google Indonesia is campaigning for the hashtag #TangkasBerinternet. This program encourages the creation of a safe digital ecosystem for children and families while surfing the internet.

The webinar, moderated by Wuri Ardianingsih, presented Putri Alam as Head of Public Policy and Government Relations of Google Indonesia and the founder of the SEJIWA Foundation, Diena Haryana.

Putri Alam conveyed that there are three concerns about digital that are felt by 42 percent of parents in Indonesia. Among other things, the security of children's information, children get unwanted attention from unknown people, to access to inappropriate content.

“At Google, we understand the need for tools that are easy to use and help parents overcome digital challenges. Namely for parents to guide their children into safe and positive online activities, ”explained Putri, Tuesday, February 9.

Putri continued that her party already has products that are able to protect information on children and parents. Plus, these easy-to-use tools give parents complete control over how to keep their kids' digital safety safe.

“For example, there is Family Link, which makes it easy for you to monitor your child's internet activities. By using this feature, you can approve application downloads on your child's device and also set the screen time, and much more, ”explained Putri.

In addition, there is a Safe Search filter that can be activated on YouTube Kids and the Google search engine, YouTube Restricted Mode. These features allow parents to adjust content according to their child's age by activating a Smart Filter or Site Blocker.

Parents can also take a free security check to find out if a family device is being compromised. Either because of viruses, ransomware, or malware.

Google's Commitment to Create Healthy Digital Activity

Putri also explained that her party realized that the support for additional features and tools was still not enough to foster healthy digital habits. According to him, for healthy digital habits to be realized, it requires commitment from all family members.

“This requires open communication with your child so they understand why this habit is important. And they feel motivated to implement it, "said Putri.

Putri gave an example of how she treated children when they were ready to use their devices. Putri said that she invited her child to discuss how to regulate the amount of time online and other rules on the internet.

It's just that, Putri also realizes that such conversations are often difficult to have. Parents often find it difficult to initiate conversations with children regarding digital activities. Therefore, through the Internet Agile Family program, Putri hopes to help parents to supervise and maintain their children's digital activities.

"We have made a short animated video that displays a variety of important information related to digital security that parents should discuss with their children as well as what digital tools can help the discussion," explained Putri.

Now, internet educational videos with the main title The Internet Agile Family can be accessed through Google Indonesia's YouTube account. Based on the author's observations, there are now two educational videos launched by Google Indonesia. Each entitled "The Behavior of Your Little One in the Digital World" and "The Miracle of Learning Through the Internet".
