US Sanctions Make Google No Longer Doing Business With Huawei

JAKARTA - Google and Huawei have not gotten along in the last few months. Moreover, the relationship between the two heated up after the United States (US) government imposed trade sanctions on Huawei and made them unable to do business anymore.

As a result, the latest smartphone from Huawei will not get vital services from Google. This forces Huawei to develop its own multiplatform OS device.

Launching from the BBC, Google finally spoke up and revealed what problems had happened with Huawei so far. Including the reason why Google prohibits Huawei smartphone users from installing its applications.

In his official statement, Android & Play's Legal Director, Tristan Ostowski, explained how Huawei was included in the Entity list that prohibits all US companies including Google from collaborating with Huawei. This also prevents Huawei devices from receiving application support from Google such as Gmail, Google Maps and the Play Store and others.

"On May 16, 2019, the US government placed Huawei on the 'Entity List.' This government action prohibits all US companies, including Google, from collaborating with Huawei. This means that Google is prohibited from working with Huawei on new device models or providing Google applications including Gmail. , Maps, YouTube, Play Store and others to load or download on this device, "wrote Google.

Due to these restrictions, Huawei devices released after May 16, 2019 will not receive application support from Google. Includes a malware scanner embedded in Google Play Protect.

In addition, Google applications that were illegally transferred will not work on Huawei devices, because Google does not allow their applications to run on uncertified and unsecured phones.

Meanwhile, Huawei smartphones launched before that date but only marketed in other countries after that will be considered as new devices and do not have Google support. Even so, Google can still provide exceptions for devices that have been marketed in the US, before May 16, 2019.

To check if your device is certified, open the Google Play Store app on your Android phone, tap Menu and look for Settings. Then a statement will appear whether the device has been certified under Play Protect certification. Or you can learn more at android.com/certified.

While the ban itself is relatively easy to understand, it does explain why Google software and apps found on the Play Store are not available on new Huawei device models. Neither of those phones can be certified, and so Google can't allow users to load or trim apps into them.

Huawei has previously denied wrongdoing that may have put it before US authorities, and believes the restrictions are designed to protect US technology companies from stiff competition.

Huawei called the accusations like extortion and stealing trade secrets. Wood also said, "Consumers understand that Huawei is caught in the geopolitical tension between the US and China at this time."

Keep in mind, Huawei remains one of the top smartphone manufacturers in the world by controlling the market 15 to 20 percent which puts it behind Apple and Samsung.
