AutoX Trials RoboTaxi In Shenzhen

JAKARTA - Today (January 28), AutoX officially launched a driverless taxi service, RoboTaxi, in China.

Currently, the service is in a pilot program and is available to the public in Shenzhen, which has the highest population density of any city in China.

Back in December 2020, AutoX had launched its service in the region for its final testing phase.

Now, the company is now fully open to the general public who can now order the fully autonomous RoboTaxi.

Self-driving taxis are able to run on regular public roads in the city and can even take "unprotected left turns at busy intersections, over side roads, dealing with scooters running traffic lights, and more."

Interested parties can register via the registration page at this link. After that, users can also use AutoX membership credit for RoboTaxi rides.

Those who drive the RoboTaxi can also speak to a customer support agent to ask any questions they want to ask.

To start, AutoX said that its 25 Pacific minivan fleet will operate in the Pingshan district of Shenzhen.

Pingshan measures 65 square miles. In comparison, the Waymo robotaxi service operates within a 50 square mile radius of Chandler, Ariz.

This customer service agent will also be able to check the status of the vehicle in real time to provide the necessary assistance.

Through this system, the company guarantees passenger support and communication. Currently, AutoX operates more than 100 RoboTaxis in the cities of Shanghai, Shenzhen and Wuhan.

This allows it to accumulate vast miles of road data in Asian cities, especially those with high population density which also suffer from challenging urban traffic conditions.
