JAKARTA - After changing ownership from Huawei, Honor finally launched its newest smartphone, the Honor V40 5G in China. The Honor V40 5G is the first device after splitting from Huawei in November.

The Honor V40 5G brings support for 5G connectivity thanks to the Dimensity chipset it uses. Apart from that, the device also carries a large OLED display, triple 50MP rear cameras, 16MP dual selfie cameras and fast wireless charging.

Regarding full specifications, the Honor V40 5G has a 6.72-inch screen with a dual punch-hole design. This is Honor's first V series phone to feature an OLED panel.

The screen offers Full HD + resolution, 1,236 x 2,676 pixels resolution, 10.7 bit color depth, 120Hz refresh rate, 200Hz touch sampling rate, and DCI-P3 color gamut. The screen is also integrated with a fingerprint sensor.

According to Honor, the V40 5G features a screen-to-body ratio of 92.3 percent. Regarding the rear design, the V40 5G is covered in glass and will not leave fingerprint marks. It weighs 186 grams and only has a thickness of 8.04mm.

The MediaTek Dimensity 1000+ 5G chipset is here to deliver outstanding performance on the Honor V40 5G, which brings support for dual SIM 5G + 5G connectivity. The phone has 8GB LPDDR4x RAM and 128GB / 256GB UFS 2.1 storage.

This smartphone runs on Android 11 OS based on Magic UI 4.0. Also present is support for the GPU Turbo X graphics acceleration engine and Hunter Boost for a better gaming experience.

Turning to the back there is a camera module in which there are 3 cameras consisting of a 50MP main camera, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro lens, and LED flash and laser autofocus.

The main lens has a large 1 / 1.56 inch sensor equipped with an RYYB filter array, which makes it possible to capture brighter shots in low light conditions.

The rear camera offers features such as front / rear dual scene photography, AI RAW super portrait engine, handheld super night scene mode, 4K HDR timelapse photography, and 1920fps super slow motion video shooting.

While on the front there is a dual punch-hole for a dual 16MP selfie camera and a ToF (Time of Flight) lens for depth estimation.

For power requirements, the Honor V40 5G is equipped with a 4,200 mAh capacity battery that supports 66W super-fast cable charging. The device also supports 50W fast wireless charging.

While other features include support for dual SIM slots, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, and USB Type-C. For an enhanced gaming experience, the V40 5G is also equipped with dual linear motors for in-game vibrations and stereo speakers.

The Honor V40 5G with 8GB RAM variants and 128GB internal storage is priced at 3,599 Yuan (Rp.7.8 million) and 3,999 Yuan (Rp.8.7 million) for the 8GB RAM variant and 256GB internal storage.

Available in three colors, namely Magic Night Black, Titanium Silver, and Rose Gold, sales of the Honor V40 5G have opened in China.

Recent reports have revealed that the phone could make its debut in international markets with the Honor View 40 in the second quarter of this year. Instead of Huawei's AppGallery, the smartphone is expected to come with Google apps and services.
