Big Waves Hit Hashtag #Pray For Manado Trending On Twitter

JAKARTA - Rain accompanied by strong winds triggered big waves that hit the city of Manado. This extreme weather also caused tidal flooding in the Megamas Manado area, North Sulawesi.

The hashtag #PrayforManado is a Trending Topic on Twitter. The condition when a big wave hit was crowded on netizens' re-tweet.

Extreme waves overflowed to the main road area in Megamas including entering Manado Town Square (Mantos). Monday, January 18th, conditions were in disarray with the remains of objects carried by the tidal waves.

From several photos obtained by VOI from a number of Manado residents, it appears that the road in the area behind Megamas Manado is full of stones from the seafront. There is also trash to the boats that crash into the shop area.

The sea water on the coast of Manado on Sunday, January 17 afternoon did indeed rise to the mainland. The cause is due to the tidal wave. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) is watching out for waves 2.5 to 4 meters high in Manado, North Sulawesi.

"So the wave height is 2.5 to 4 meters," said Head of the Center for Maritime Meteorology of BMKG Eko Prasetyo in a written statement reported by Antara, Sunday, January 17.

Currently the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Sulawesi Province and Manado City is carrying out rapid assessments and evacuations with SAR, TNI / Polri, the community and volunteers.
