JAKARTA - The ability of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered chatbots such as ChatGPT is unquestionable. OpenAI's service can provide anything according to the user's request, including writing papers to thesis.

To avoid using ChatGPT in making tasks, Turnitin, the world's leading academic integrity solution provider, announced its AI has been to identify the use of AI-based writing devices including ChatGPT, with a 98 percent confidence level.

Developed to help academic teachers and institutions identify the existence of texts produced by AI in student writing, Turnitin's ability to detect AI writing is integrated into existing Turnitin systems and can be accessed through a learning management system.

"The teachers told us that the ability to accurately detect written AI-made text is their first priority at this time. They must be able to detect AI with very high certainty to assess the authenticity of students' works and determine the best way to handle it," Turnitin CEO Chris Caren said in a press release on Turnitin's official website, quoted Sunday, April 9.

The most important part is that teachers who have used Turnitin do not need additional steps to activate it. With this technology, more than 10,700 educational institutions and more than 2.1 million teachers will be able to quickly and easily evaluate the existence of AI-generated text.

"Lecturers in Indonesia realize that AI devices can have an impact on the quality of student work and learning experience. However, while the community thinks that AI devices can also be a strength for good, a high dependence on technology can hinder critical thinking and academic integrity which is the core value for community development," said James Thorley, Vice President of Turnitin Regional Asia Pacific.
