Duh! Apple Sued For Wireless Communications Patent

JAKARTA - Apple is currently facing its latest lawsuit. This time, the company was sued for patent infringement on wireless communications via iPhones and other products featuring cellular connectivity.

According to an Apple Insider report, the complaint was filed with the US District Court for the Western District of Texas earlier this week.

The suit alleges that the Cupertino-based giant knowingly infringed on five pieces of intellectual property owned by Delaware, USA-based Neo Wireless, LLC.

Patents for several underlying systems related to wireless communications, frequency bands, and other cellular network technologies.

The lawsuit technically targets the way iPhone uses multiple cellular networks. This includes 4G LTE and 5G networks.

The complaint states that "To take advantage of LTE or 4G and NR or 5G networks, iPhones are manufactured to meet wireless standards, such as the 3GPP standard, which ensure compatibility of wireless devices and wireless networks."

While not specifically stated, the lawsuit also targets the Apple Watch and iPad, as these products are deemed to be included in infringement claims just like other cellular-enabled company gadgets.

Currently, the complaint is requesting a jury trial and demands that the company pay compensation, fees and other costs related to patent infringement. This also includes paying ongoing attorney fees and royalties as well.
