German data protection commissioner told the Handelsblatt newspaper on Monday April 3 that Germany could follow Italy's lead by blocking Chat-GPT due to data security concerns.

"In principle, such actions are also possible in Germany," Ulrich Kelber said. He added that this would fall under state jurisdiction. However, he did not specify the current plans to take action.

Kelber said Germany had asked for further information from Italy regarding a temporary ban, prompting Microsoft-backed OpenAI to disable Chat-GPT in the country.

As of April 3, 2023, Italy is the only country to ban Chat-GPT due to data security concerns. However, some countries have considered limiting or controlling the use of artificial intelligence technologies such as Chat-GPT, especially in the context of using applications to generate fake content or mimicking someone's identity.
