This Rare Bugatti Type 57S Classic Is Up For Auction Next Month

JAKARTA - After nearly five decades of being parked, a rare 1937 Bugatti Type 57S is ready for sale. The price offered is quite fantastic, namely at a price of around 6.7 million to 9.5 million US dollars.

Launching CNN, the car series, which is being chased by collectors of this rare car, will be auctioned off by the Bonhams auction house. The auction house said this car was found in a workshop owned by the late Bill Turnbull, the previous owner who was in the Staffordshire area, England.

Turnbull, who comes from New Zealand, is known to have bought the car from the previous owner in 1969. Then, he gradually restored the rare car.

The next five decades, the Bugatti seemed forgotten. When Turnbull died in 2020, the restoration process of the car was nearing completion and in prime condition.

Bonhams Director Sholto Gilbertson said, when it was first developed, the Bugatti Type 57S was the most advanced model at that time. In fact, this series was called the fastest and most exclusive car that could be purchased at that time.

"When it came out, this was the fastest and most exclusive car. However, this model was not widely made. Generally this series is in private collections or in museums. This one, has been hidden for the last 50 years. This could be the last hidden Bugatti before the War. (World II), "he explained.

Interestingly, the chassis of this car is thought to have been produced for the first time for the Bugatti Type 57G Tank, a Grand Prix winner and record-breaking race car model, and only three units were made.

The plan is that the Bugatti Type 57 Surbaisse 3.3 liter Four Seat Sport Grand Routier 'Dulgie' will be auctioned off by Bonhams in London on February 19, 2021.
