JAKARTA - The Minister of Communication and Informatics (Menkominfo) Johnny G. Plate has a meeting with WhatsApp / Facebook Asia Pacific Region. He asked WhatsApp to explain openly about the rules for sharing user data.

He referred to the pros and cons that emerged after WhatsApp's new policy to share user data with Facebook. The conditional notification also requires the user to agree to the rules.

"Kominfo emphasizes that WhatsApp and related parties respond to the public's attention by providing an explanation to the Indonesian people that is conveyed in a complete, transparent, clear, understandable and accessible way to the public regarding the update to WhatsApp's privacy policy," said Johnny in his statement, Tuesday, Tuesday. , January 12.

Johnny also emphasized a number of policy points that caused controversy, such as the types of personal data that WhatsApp collects and processes and shares with third parties. Then explain the purpose and basis for the interests of processing personal data.

In addition, Johnny also asked WhatsApp to explain the mechanism provided for users to exercise their rights. Including the right to withdraw consent and other rights guaranteed by applicable laws as well as other public concerns.

"Especially regarding the public's concerns about the types of personal data that Whatsapp collects and processes and shares with third parties," said Johnny.

Starting from this incident, Johnny also invited him to support the completion of the Personal Data Protection Bill (PDP Law). One of the main principles of processing personal data regulated in the PDP Bill, he said, requires the use of personal data to be carried out on a valid legal basis.

"By always reading the privacy policy and terms and conditions document before using a service and giving consent to the use of personal data," he explained.
