JAKARTA -Crypto has entered various industries over the years since its emergence to allow users with unique abilities to micro-monetize their actions. Play-to-earn games, along with income from music streaming, have been the forerunners for this type of crypto integration.

On January 24, Fountain, a value-for-value podcasting platform, announced a new partnership with ZEBEDEE, a financial services company that helps monetize games and apps, to enable Bitcoin as a micropayment for podcast listeners.

Oscar Merry, founder and CEO of Fountain, calls the ability to listen to podcasts and earn money to be a powerful combo and the future for content creation.

“A few years from now, we will look back at paid subscriptions for content platforms unrelated to how much we actually use those platforms and laugh at how basic and inefficient they are,” said Merry, quoted by Cointelegraph.

In addition, through the partnership with ZEBEDEE, users do not need to know anything about cryptocurrencies in order to take advantage of rewards through the integration of debit and credit cards.

Merry told Cointelegraph that through specific use of the Bitcoin Lightning Network, functioning instant, permissionless, low-cost payments can be programmed within the Fountain app and other open RSS standards.

According to Merry, such developments connect the “fragmented podcasting industry” which currently operates across multiple applications and asynchronous hosting providers.

He went on to highlight that every minute spent viewing ads and consuming or creating content increases the value of the platform.

“Why don't you participate in the financial benefits of the value you create on the platform?” he said.

As developers continue to prioritize utility in new protocols, adoption of new technologies becomes almost imperceptible. More recently, a "party-to-earn" initiative targeted the electronic music industry to create a universal currency among festival-goers, clubbers, and fans.
